    Civil Defence Executive Committee

 

Yew Tee Civil Defence Executive Committee (CDEC) was formed in 1997 to create community awareness of Civil Defence and helps maintain a competent Civil Defence capability in the constituency. The Civil Defence Co-ordinating Committee (CDCC) was renamed as Civil Defence Executive Committee (CDEC) when it was brought under the purview of the PA from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) in November 1998. The CDEC promotes community awareness of civil defence and helps maintain a competent civil defence capability in the constituency. It organises Civil Defence activities and exercises to educate and prepare residents to cope with emergencies so as to minimize sufferings and loss of lives and properties. The CDEC also recruit and train Civil Defence Volunteer Leaders in Yew Tee to assist in civil defence, fire-fighting, emergencies management and CD shelter management.

Objectives of the Committee
To achieve maximum participation of the civilian population in Civil Defence To educate and prepare residents to cope with emergencies so as to minimize sufferings and loss of lives and properties.

Functions of the Committee
The functions of the Committee are to assist the Singapore Civil Defence Force: To promote and sustain community awareness in and support for Civil Defence and emergency preparedness programmes within the context of Total Defence; To develop and maintain a competent Civil Defence capability in the Constituency

To oversee and monitor the recruitment, training and organisation of Civil Defence Volunteers and Civil Defence Volunteer Leaders. To organise Civil Defence related activities and emergency exercises for Civil Defence Volunteers, Civil Defence Volunteer Leaders and residents

To disseminate information to the Civil Defence Volunteers, Civil Defence Volunteer Leaders and residents and to channel feedback to the Singapore Civil Defence Force. To mobilise Civil Defence Volunteers and Civil Defence Volunteer Leaders for emergency exercises and during disaster periods and to manage the communal Civil Defence shelters during emergency exercises and disaster periods.
